Seafront public toilets reopen after structural issues fixed

Public toilets on the seafront have reopened to the public after being closed due to structural issues.

The Colonnade toilets on Brighton’s seafront were shut due to structural issues but have now reopened for use.

They are open 9am to 6pm throughout the summer.

Councillor Tim Rowkins, cabinet member for net zero and environmental services, said: “We know how important public toilets are for residents, businesses and visitors, particularly along the seafront during the summer months.

“I’m pleased that we’ve been able to reopen the Colonnade toilets and provide these facilities in such a prime visitor location once again.”

While most of the facilities are now operational, the changing places toilet remains closed.

Work to fix the issue is expected to be carried out this winter.

Further upgrades and refurbishment plans are under development, including accessibility improvements to ensure the long-term use of the building.

Cllr Rowkins said: “While the toilets are now open, there is still further work to do.

“They are in an ageing building, and we need to address longer-term structural issues and complete additional improvement works so that the site can provide the high-quality, accessible facilities people expect.
