Historic castle emerges as vibrant community gathering spot

A cherished heritage landmark is preparing to receive guests once more following an ambitious fresh approach.

Troika has assumed control of Hastings Castle and intends to reopen the site in May, with plans to establish the historic fortification as a vibrant centre for arts and culture.

The venture aims to return the fortress to the heart of community life through a programme of regular gatherings and special events that honour its extensive history while delivering modern cultural experiences.

The fresh operators view considerable potential for the grounds to serve as a venue for artistic displays, musical acts, and community engagement.

Their prior accomplishments include rejuvenating various local spaces: the West Hill Project, the West Hill Kiosk, and Bunka, a dining venue offering food and drinks at the top of the Observer building.

Event producers Ellie Westbrook and Vanessa Farinha are managing programming, intending to collaborate with local organisations so that the activities represent the area’s dynamic creative scene.

The renaissance commences with Creatures of the Castle, a launch weekend scheduled for May 8 and May 10.

The celebrations encompass an evening event followed by a daytime programme aimed at families.

The opening event on Friday, May 8, runs from 5:30pm to 8:30pm and features appearances by local musicians and DJs.

Tickets are priced at £10 and include one complimentary drink; children under 12 enter free of charge.

The family session on Sunday, May 10, takes place between 11am and 3pm with an admission charge of £8.50.

The programme includes performances by young talent from Fat Tuesday, craft sessions directed by Radiator Arts and Kyla Jardine, shows from the Tots Tunes family act, narrative presentations, and classic cream teas.

Those responsible for the reopening have described it as a defining moment in the castle’s recent history and expect it will herald an exciting new chapter for both the monument and the local community.
