Well-regarded Sussex boozer named Greene King’s finest in the UK

A pub in Sussex has been crowned the finest Greene King establishment in Britain.

The Station in Hove secured this accolade after achieving an almost flawless 4.7 score on Google, drawn from over 2,000 customer assessments.

The venue topped a nationwide list of Greene King outlets assembled by casino comparison platform CritiqueJeu.

The platform examined 1,506 Greene King venues listed on the chain’s official site and evaluated them using Google ratings, with review counts serving as the deciding factor when ratings matched.

Two additional establishments sharing the same 4.7 score – the Wackum Inn in Bristol and Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem in Nottingham – occupied second and third positions respectively, with total review numbers again breaking the tie.

The Station holds its position as the highest-rated among all Greene King pubs nationwide.

The venue stands adjacent to Hove train station. It offers outdoor drinking areas, pool tables inside, and broadcasts sporting events live.

The establishment also features a seasonal menu during the festive period, comprising maple-glazed pigs in blankets, a Christmas toastie, and plum pudding.

The most affordable lager available on draft is Amstel, costing £6 per pint, according to CritiqueJea’s findings.

Greene King, which began trading in 1799, runs approximately 2,700 pubs, eateries, and hotels throughout the UK under multiple brands such as Hungry Horse, Chef and Brewer, and Farmhouse Inns.

The company is also recognized for producing well-known beer varieties including Greene King IPA and Old Speckled Hen.

The Greene King brewery operates from Bury St Edmonds.

According to the study’s assessment criteria, the ten highest-rated Greene King pubs across the UK are:

The Station, Hove

Wackum Inn, Bristol

Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, Nottingham

The Swan, London

The Scotia, Glasgow

The Wilmington, London

The Spread Eagle, Blackburn

Tap and Tumbler, Nottingham

The Starbank Inn, Edinburgh

The Fortescue, Plymouth

Across all Greene King pubs included in the analysis, the mean rating stood at 4.2 out of five.

Paul Lenglet, co-founder of CritiqueJeu, explained that given their extensive network of venues, a Greene King outlet is always nearby, so they sought to identify which ones receive the most appreciation from customers.

What emerged was that those venues with the highest ratings tend to possess genuine personality and heritage, establishments such as Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, which traces its origins to 1189, rather than recently renovated sites.
