Morning commuters are facing significant disruption on a major route this morning. The A27 Brighton Road heading eastbound through Falmer is experiencing substantial delays of approximately ten minutes, with vehicles travelling at an average speed of just ten miles per hour.

The road conditions are worse than usual on the A27 Brighton Road eastbound in the vicinity of the B2123 The Drove junction near Falmer and Rottingdean, where construction work is underway.

According to the AA, while traffic flow has improved and queues have shortened, the volume of vehicles remains above typical levels for this time of day.

The reduced capacity is due to a single lane being closed for ongoing roadworks. The closure affects the A27 eastbound carriageway between the B2123 The Drove junction at Falmer and Rottingdean, and the A277 Brighton Road at the Ashcombe Roundabout.

These roadworks are being carried out to enable the installation of a Greggs drive-through facility at a petrol station in the area.
