The local authority’s planning department has sanctioned modifications to the football facilities in Hailsham.

Wealden District Council’s planning officers approved the scheme on Monday for building a new clubhouse at the Beaconsfield Football Ground on Western Road.

The permission additionally covers constructing a fresh entry point and ticket barrier, installing additional spectator seating, and reorganising current viewing platforms.

Planning paperwork indicates the proposed clubhouse—which will contain changing areas, restrooms, and a kitchen—closely follows a 2022 submission that had previously received consent.

A council planning official stated in documentation that the 2022 scheme comprised a new changing room structure linked to an existing canteen. That canteen was subsequently discovered to have structural problems and was removed. The present proposal aims to rebuild the whole complex as one unified structure.

The official went on to say the proposed building mirrors the previously sanctioned design in its arrangement and layout. Sport England raised no particular concerns about the proposal, so it has been considered acceptable.

The official further commented that the scheme provides a fitting and sensible substitution for the earlier structures. Within the setting of the football ground, it would not harm the visual quality of neighbouring homes or the wider locality.

Structural integrity worries had earlier prompted the removal of the club’s older stands and turnstiles. Since this dismantling had already taken place, the application was handled as partly retrospective.

Separately, council officers noted that the club is currently in the process of replacing its natural grass pitch with a 3G artificial surface, though this work was not part of this particular submission.
