A popular green space has been given a fresh new look.
The flowerbeds at Palmeira Square (North) in Hove have been redesigned as part of a project led by Brighton and Hove City Council’s Cityparks team in partnership with the Friends of Palmeira and Adelaide (FOPA).
Although planting is nearly finished, the area will remain fenced while turf, grass seed and new plants become established.
Councillor Alan Robins, cabinet member for sport, recreation and libraries, said: “What a transformation.
“It’s been wonderful to see the new planting scheme evolve over the past few weeks, creating a lovely and tranquil space for residents and visitors to enjoy.
“I’d like to thank members of the Friends of Palmeira Square for their continued support, from contributing to the design to getting stuck in with the planting and creating a garden to be proud of.

“This project reflects our commitment to working together to maintain and enhance green spaces for the community, while increasing biodiversity and adapting to climate change.”
The garden’s new design features pollinator-friendly, drought-tolerant and ground-cover plants to encourage wildlife and improve sustainability.
It also incorporates elements from the original pre-1953 layout, blending historical character with modern, climate-conscious planting.
More than 1,100 responses to the public consultation shaped the final design.
The well-known floral clock has not been changed during this phase of the work.
A shortlist of options has been drawn up by the working group and a consultation is planned to make the final decision.
