Cultural venues across England are set to benefit from significant government funding.
The Ropetackle in Shoreham is among those receiving support, with £371,000 assigned through the Labour Party’s £127.8 million programme. The money will cover upgrades to ticket sales systems, climate control installation, sound quality enhancements, and refurbishment of the main hall.
This aid comes from the newly created Arts Everywhere Fund, which represents a £1.5 billion commitment to improve cultural venues throughout England.
East Worthing and Shoreham MP Tom Rutland said local artistic and cultural venues act as focal points for communities, bringing people together and highlighting what makes Shoreham unique.
He added that he was proud to have worked alongside fellow Labour councillors at Adur Council to push for this funding and help secure the Ropetackle’s future.
After years of underfunding, this Labour administration is backing cultural institutions and recognising the vital role they play in local areas.
This funding round will support 130 cultural venues, museums and libraries.
Adur District Council leader Jeremy Gardner, who also represents St. Mary’s ward, noted that venues such as the Ropetackle are essential to both the community and the local economy, offering spaces where residents gather, enjoy entertainment and feel proud of their town.
He said this represented a valuable chance for the council to collaborate with Arts Council England and the Ropetackle to enhance and revive the facility, guaranteeing its social and economic value for the community continues.
This shows what can be accomplished when a Labour government works together with Labour councils and local groups.
The Arts Everywhere Fund is part of a broader investment in cultural infrastructure.
Other national initiatives include the Creative Foundations Fund for theatres and galleries, the Museum Estate and Development Fund, and the Libraries Improvement Fund.
Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy said the arts and culture should not be limited to the wealthy.
They should be available to everyone, wherever they live.
