Green Party’s deputy leader visits Worthing to hear from voters

The deputy leader of the Green Party visited Worthing to meet voters and hear about local issues.

Rachel Millward, who is also deputy leader of Wealden District Council, joined Green candidates in Broadwater on Saturday, April 11.

She addressed Green Party members who were out campaigning for Jimi Taylor, who is standing for borough and county council seats.

Jimi is described as having “a long record of public service” in Broadwater, first serving as deputy youth mayor at the age of 16, then youth mayor at 17.

Speaking prior to the visit, he said: “Rachel valued the day she spent in Worthing before Christmas.

“This visit she will be able to meet residents on their doorstep and learn more about the changes Worthing needs that are important to them.”

Two Worthing Green councillors, Claire Hunt and Ian Davey, are already serving on Worthing Borough Council.

Data from Nowcast – a model which predicts the outcome of an election for different areas across the country – projects that if an election was held now, the Green Party would win all parliamentary seats available in Brighton and Hove.

These are Brighton Pavilion, currently occupied by Green MP Sian Berry; Brighton, Kemptown and Peacehaven, and Hove and Portslade, occupied by Labour MPs Chris Ward and Peter Kyle respectively.

However, not all residents felt the figures were reflective of their views and raised concerns about the party coming into power across Brighton and Hove.

Many reflected on events between 2011 and 2023, when the party previously ran Brighton and Hove City Council.
