MP Pushes for Urgent Repairs to Dangerous Potholes Threatening Cars

A local MP is calling on authorities to tackle declining road conditions across her constituency.

Jess Brown-Fuller, who serves as the Chichester constituency MP, raised the issue in Westminster Hall, highlighting the impact substandard road surfaces have on community members and businesses.

She shared the story of a driving instructor who has incurred hundreds of pounds in car repair costs and missed out on daily earnings of up to £250 due to pothole-related damage.

According to Ms Brown-Fuller, her inbox contains numerous messages from local people regarding the condition of roads throughout the Chichester region. She noted that from potholes wrecking cars to insufficient lighting and perilous roundabout configurations, the road system clearly does not satisfy acceptable safety requirements. She outlined a particular situation involving a local driving instructor whose career and income are being harmed by road surface problems. The instructor explained that avoiding potholes consumes additional time, pulling his focus away from teaching responsibilities.

She observed that potholes are frequently left without repair, and when maintenance work is carried out, the solution proves temporary as the pothole resurfaces within days.

She indicated she would keep pressing the Department for Transport, National Highways, and West Sussex County Council to intensify their efforts to resolve these concerns.
