Early morning report on A27 road closure

A primary coastal highway remains closed through the night after a traffic crash occurred.

The westbound A27 carriageway is not passable between the A280 interchange at Angmering and Clapham and the A284 Lyminster Road junction at Crossbush as a result of a severe collision.

Official information

Emergency responders reached the scene, which occurred at around 10:40pm on April 3.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police indicated last night that personnel were managing a serious road traffic event on the A27 Arundel Road in Angmering.

The westbound direction stays closed while emergency services operate at the site. Members of the public are asked to remain patient and cooperative during this restriction.

Investigators are looking for accounts from witnesses, and those who may have recorded relevant footage on dashcams are encouraged to reach out to collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk, citing Operation Newgate.

Diversion arrangement

A temporary route has been arranged for motorists.

National Highways is advising drivers to follow the Hollow Triangle diversion symbol displayed on signs.

Westbound vehicles being redirected will exit the A27 at Clapham onto the westbound A280 travelling towards the A259.

At the junction with the A259, traffic will continue westward along the A259 until reaching the A284 interchange, then take the A284 heading north to rejoin the A27 at Crossbush.

Emergency services confirmed a 20-year-old man from the local area died at the scene where a pedestrian was hit by a car.

Road fully restored

The westbound A27 between the A280 junction at Angmering and Clapham and the A284 Lyminster Road junction at Crossbush has reopened following last night’s serious collision on April 3.
