A27 closed overnight following crash

Good morning and thank you for following our live updates.

The A27 continues to be impassable in the westbound carriageway from the A280 junction at Angmering and Clapham through to the A284 Lyminster Road at Crossbush after a serious road traffic collision.

Police statement

Emergency services attended the scene, which occurred at around 10.40pm on April 3.

According to a spokesperson for Sussex Police, officers are currently dealing with a severe road traffic accident on the A27 Arundel Road in Angmering. The westbound lane is presently sealed off while emergency personnel work at the location. The spokesperson asked for the public’s patience during this road closure. According to the spokesperson, detectives are seeking witnesses, and anyone possessing dashboard camera footage, to send an email to collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk, referencing Operation Newgate.

Alternative route

A diversion has been put in place for drivers.

National Highways has directed motorists to follow the ‘Hollow Triangle’ diversion signs.

Westbound traffic using the diversion will exit the A27 at the Clapham interchange onto the westbound A280 and travel towards the A259.

At the crossroads with the A259, it will travel west along the A259, remain on this route until reaching the junction with the A284, then take the A284 heading north and return to the A27 at Crossbush.
