Published on

Rail services faced disruption after passengers caused trouble on a train running between Shoreham-by-Sea and Worthing, according to real-time updates.

Westbound services were suspended.

Southern Rail posted on social media that passengers were causing issues on a train heading from Shoreham-by-Sea toward Worthing, with the line toward Worthing shut until further notice.

The operator confirmed this was impacting the following westbound services:

Brighton to Southampton Central

Brighton to Bognor Regis and Chichester

London Victoria to Littlehampton

Southern Rail informed the relevant authorities about the unfolding situation.

The Argus contacted British Transport Police for further details.

Officers made their way to the scene to remove the troublesome passengers from the train. The line toward Worthing was expected to remain blocked for at least 10 minutes. Travellers currently on this route were advised to check their service and anticipate additional journey time of at least 10 minutes.

Southern Rail later confirmed that police had successfully removed the passengers from the train, enabling services to restart.

Trains could once again run between Shoreham-by-Sea and Worthing. Those travelling at the time faced potential delays of up to 40 minutes. Passengers yet to begin their journeys were urged to check their service and allow extra travel time.

Officials were awaiting confirmation from British Transport Police regarding the precise nature of the incident.

Rail services have now returned to normal operation.

Passengers whose journeys were delayed by 15 minutes or longer may be eligible for delay repay compensation.

British Transport Police have issued a statement regarding the morning’s events.

Officers reported attending a report of an assault on a train at Lancing.

This concludes our live updates on this incident.
