Takeaway allowed to operate late night deliveries

A pizza takeaway owner has been granted a licence for late-night deliveries.

Sussex Police and Brighton and Hove City Council licensing objected to Mohammed Sufiyan Patni’s application to operate deliveries after 11pm from Square Pizza, in Pool Valley.

At a licensing panel hearing on Tuesday, March 17, Sussex Police licensing officer Claire Abdelkader said Pool Valley and East Street were a focus of the night-time and weekend policing operation known as Op Marble.

Mr Patni, 33, told the panel of three councillors – Julie Cattell, Ivan Lyons and Ollie Sykes – that he had worked with Sussex Police and the council’s licensing team since applying for the late licence.

He reduced the original proposed business hours and committed to closing the doors to the public at 11pm.

Before the hearing, Mr Patni agreed to draft conditions proposed by the police that he sign up for mobile security support and membership of the Brighton Crime Reduction Partnership.

He also agreed to have two staff on duty and to keep lighting to a minimum.

The panel said Mr Patni was willing to meet the requirements of operating in the centre of Brighton.

The council decision letter said: “He was willing to meet the requirements of the police by agreeing to the conditions proposed and had thought through how to manage a delivery-only operation with minimum disturbance and impact.

“Ultimately, the panel considers that the limited activities now proposed and the way in which the applicant has engaged with the responsible authorities address their concerns.”
