responders from emergency services attended the scene on Monday evening after receiving reports of a pedestrian being hit at a designated crossing, with investigators treating the incident as a possible failure to stop.

The accident happened on South Way in Newhaven at a pedestrian crossing, with officials establishing the time as between 7:30 and 7:45 in the evening.

A male aged in his thirties suffered slight injuries after being struck by a compact red car that was heading in the direction of Lewes Road while in the right-hand lane of the one-way road system.

Sussex Police communications officer Kate Buckland reported that the motorist drove away without halting, and the victim was given medical care for minor injuries.

Buckland is appealing to the public for help.

She stated that anyone who happened to be in the area during that time window and witnessed the incident unfold, or who possesses dashcam footage capturing either the collision or the vehicle involved, should get in touch with police.
