A motorist who was over the legal alcohol limit led officers on a chase through Brighton and has now been sentenced to time in prison.

Officers from the roads policing division were carrying out patrols in the Seven Dials neighbourhood on 22 July the previous year when they noticed a Seat Arona travelling at high speed.

They pursued the car throughout the city until it eventually halted in Cannon Place, where the driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was taken into custody.

The motorist was named as Jordan Lewis, aged 26, who has no fixed place of residence.

Lewis was apprehended and faced charges of taking a vehicle without the owner’s permission, operating a motor vehicle without a valid licence, and driving without insurance. He was additionally charged with being over the drink-drive limit – specifically having 137mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. The permitted level is 80mg.

During police questioning, Lewis declined to answer any inquiries, though he acknowledged responsibility for all four offences.

At Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 11 March, Lewis received a combined sentence of 34 weeks imprisonment.

He was also banned from driving for a period of 18 months and instructed to pay a £154 victim surcharge.
