Proposals have been submitted to redevelop an ex-bank premises in Seaford.

Lewes District Council received the application on March 17, seeking consent to turn the former HSBC premises on Sutton Park Road in Seaford into a combination of homes and shops.

Mr D Archer is named as the applicant on the council’s website. The scheme would see the ground level converted into two retail spaces, with three flats created on the floors above.

According to documentation provided with the application, a representative for the applicant stated that the renovation project takes account of the site’s specific challenges while enhancing the local streetscape.

The design has been crafted to relate well to its surroundings and functions effectively in terms of access arrangements. The change of use makes efficient use of the space and creates a suitable living environment without affecting neighbouring private outdoor areas. The scheme does not introduce any flood risk.

The plans are considered appropriate in terms of size and materials. Using matching brickwork on the facade maintains visual continuity while achieving good thermal performance and durability.

The representative further noted that the plans align with the Lewes District Joint Core Strategy, the Seaford Neighbourhood Plan and the National Planning Policy Framework.

The application is therefore respectfully asking for full planning approval to be given.

The applicant describes the scheme as a car-free development, arguing this is suitable given its position in central Seaford, with regular bus services running along the A259 nearby.

Cycle parking facilities would be provided at the rear of the property.

The work would also involve a modest addition at the back of the structure and some alterations to the exterior.
