A major incident in Eastbourne has caused rail services to be suspended.

Rail services in the town came to a halt after electricity supply to the railway infrastructure was disconnected while responders attended the situation.

Emergency services responded to an incident in the Eastbourne region. The electricity supply to the railway lines was disconnected, resulting in all train services being halted and passengers experiencing delays. Further details will be provided.

The disruption impacted services on the following lines in the Eastbourne area in both directions: Brighton to Eastbourne and Ore, plus Eastbourne to Ashford International. Passengers did not need to find alternative routes at this stage, though travel times were extended beyond normal.

Travellers heading to, from or passing through Eastbourne were advised to add an extra 20 minutes to their planned journey times. Trains were temporarily stopped at Polegate and Pevensey and Westham stations while the situation was resolved. Passengers were urged to verify their journey details before setting off.

In an update, the electricity supply to the railway infrastructure was reconnected and all lines resumed operations. Normal services could continue but passengers were still asked to account for an additional 15 minutes due to residual knock-on delays.

Officers have been asked for further details by this publication.

A representative stated that officers attended a welfare concern report regarding a missing person in Eastbourne at approximately 10am on 22 March. The individual was found and transported to a medical facility for treatment.
