A female MP has stated that women still require additional chances and positions of authority.

Mims Davies, the Conservative Party’s spokesperson on women’s issues and equality, voiced these remarks during the celebration of International Women’s Day at a London event on March 8.

She expressed being proud to have spoken at the All-Party Parliamentary Group’s International Women’s Day Fair, describing it as an event concentrating on policy matters within Parliament that gathered organisations recognised as leaders in this field to highlight exemplary approaches, commemorate new developments and exchange knowledge.

As the opposition’s minister responsible for women’s affairs and co-chair of the cross-party group for women in Parliament, she indicated she was grateful to participate alongside attendees and engage in discussions about gender representation.

Over the 2010-2024 period, the proportion of businesses with female leadership has risen to 20.1%, with more than two million additional women now in employment, strengthening the workforce and supporting economic expansion.

She noted with satisfaction that the disparity in pay between genders has narrowed, having fallen by 25 percent over the past ten years, while acknowledging that considerably more effort remains necessary regarding women’s presence throughout the workforce and in managerial positions.

Ms Davies participated in the Women and Work All-Party Parliamentary Group gathering at Westminster to review advancements in employment and advocate for additional measures concerning female participation in the labour market and advancement into senior roles.
