Shoreham police officer seriously injured after motorcycle pursuit

An officer sustained serious injuries when a motorcycle struck him during a chase.

Officers noted motorcyclists riding recklessly throughout Shoreham at approximately 5pm on August 23.

The motorcycles were chased by police to a filling station on Brighton Road in Shoreham, where a bike struck an officer who had exited his vehicle to arrest the rider.

The officer sustained severe leg injuries but managed to assist in detaining both the rider and the pillion.

Max Harvey, aged 21 and residing on Buckingham Road in Shoreham, faced charges of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, driving while disqualified and lacking insurance.

He appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, August 24. He was granted bail with conditions to appear at crown court on September 22.

The pillion passenger, a 17-year-old from Hove, was arrested on suspicion of stealing a motorbike, assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and possessing cannabis with intent to supply.

He has been released on bail pending further investigation.

Officers are requesting that anyone who witnessed the incident or captured footage on mobile phones, dashcams or CCTV systems report it via the online portal or telephone 101, quoting reference 908 of 23/08.
