A second individual has been taken into custody following a blaze that razed 140 cars at an industrial estate.

The fire swept through automobiles and light commercial vehicles stored at Caldyne Business Park in Rowfant, close to Gatwick Airport, on Saturday evening.

One individual, aged 67, was detained on suspicion of arson on Saturday 22 August.

A second individual, aged 29, was detained on suspicion of arson on Monday 24 August.

Both have been released while inquiries continue.

Firefighters and other emergency responders stayed at the fire location through the night, whilst UK Power Network disconnected electricity to the surrounding area and several adjacent streets were cordoned off as a safety measure. Vehicle proprietors have been told to reach out to their operator directly.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police confirmed that a 67-year-old was detained on 22 August and a 29-year-old was detained on 24 August on suspicion of arson. They have since been released on bail whilst investigations proceed.
