West Sussex council and Manor Royal BID discuss business growth

Investment growth and infrastructure development featured prominently in recent conversations aimed at strengthening commercial expansion in the region.

West Sussex County Council leader Jay Mercer and Yvonne Gravely, who serves as cabinet member for economy and skills, convened with the chief executive of Manor Royal Business Improvement District to examine fresh possibilities for joint working.

The dialogue concentrated on drawing investment, assisting commercial expansion and preserving effective partnerships, particularly given the context of continuing local government restructuring.

Economic expansion represents a fundamental priority for West Sussex, according to Councillor Mercer.

The creation of new, diverse and higher-paying employment prospects, together with securing both public and private sector investment and modernising public infrastructure, all serve as drivers for the Sussex economy and enhance community wellbeing.

The Manor Royal area constitutes a significant economic zone within the county, with the BID playing an essential part in jointly designing and implementing initiatives that enhance regional productivity.

The discussions also acknowledged the achievements of the Crawley Growth Programme, which encompassed the prolongation of a dedicated bus lane linking the A23 London Road with Gatwick Road.

Advances in the Re-Energise Manor Royal scheme were likewise assessed.

The initiative seeks to direct resources toward renewable energy to establish a more reliable, environmentally friendly and cost-effective energy supply for enterprises operating within the district.

Steve Sawyer, Executive Director of Manor Royal BID, expressed appreciation for the time Councillors Mercer and Gravely allocated to visiting Manor Royal.

Constructive and productive exchanges took place regarding the various approaches available for collaboration to deliver significant enhancements to the Business District since the establishment of the Manor Royal BID.

Consideration was also given to forthcoming challenges, with anticipation expressed for continued close cooperation with the County Council to maintain Manor Royal’s competitiveness for the advantage this brings to businesses and local residents.

Manor Royal accommodates more than 600 companies and provides employment for approximately 30,000 individuals.
