On Marine Drive in Saltdean, a serious assault left a man with significant injuries after he was struck in the face.

The violence occurred on 16 August at approximately 7:20 in the morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene following reports of the incident.

Investigating officers established that the victim had been walking his dog along the coastal road.

He was heading back to his vehicle, which had been left in the vicinity of the Whitecliffs cafe, when the attack happened.

A confrontation had developed between the injured man and a woman who was also out walking her dogs in the area.

During the dispute, the male victim received a punch to his face.

The man responsible for the assault is described by witnesses as standing around five feet nine inches tall, of slim build, with brown hair, and clad in clothing suitable for jogging.

Police are appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or possess any relevant information to come forward.
