A coastal music festival has postponed its opening because of adverse weather conditions, less than a day after a separate outdoor event was struck by tragedy.

Bournefest confirmed at approximately 2pm on Saturday, August 29 that attendees would not be permitted to enter the venue as organizers remained unconvinced that environmental conditions met safety requirements.

The announcement followed a fatal incident at Big Church Festival, located at Wiston Park near Steyning, where a 41-year-old male from Eastbourne lost his life when a substantial wooden sign collapsed.

Bournefest is positioned as a family-oriented music celebration taking place along the Eastbourne seafront.

The event showcases live performances, tribute artists, and catering facilities throughout the bank holiday weekend.

Festival organizers had previously assured followers via social media on Friday that arrangements would proceed as planned.

By Saturday afternoon, a revised communication confirmed that the commencement would be postponed pending a thorough reassessment of circumstances.

Organizers indicated that staff had devoted considerable effort over the preceding two days constructing facilities and guaranteeing visitor safety.

Unfavourable weather patterns had necessitated the decision to defer the festival opening.

The welfare of patrons, technical personnel, vendors, entertainers, and volunteers was cited as the paramount concern.

Though disappointment was acknowledged among those anticipating entry, organizers maintained that proceeding without assurance of safe conditions remained unacceptable.

An additional evaluation was scheduled for 4pm, with a potential 5pm commencement contingent upon satisfactory weather and ground conditions.
