Emergency crews responded to a residential property fire in Brighton on Saturday afternoon.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service personnel were despatched to Warleigh Road, an area situated near London Road railway station.

The fire service issued an alert regarding the incident at approximately 2:38pm.

Firefighters arrived at the scene to find a blaze affecting a basement flat within a residential building.

Crews equipped with breathing apparatus deployed one hose reel jet and one main jet to combat the flames.

The fire extended to the first floor of the property while smoke penetrated all three levels of the building.

Residents in the vicinity were advised to steer clear of the location while operations continued.

Households neighbouring the affected property received instructions to keep doors and windows sealed.

Emergency services confirmed that all individuals present at the premises had been located and accounted for.

The incident command requested assistance from UK Power Networks following the isolation of electrical supplies at the property.

An emergency response spokesperson indicated that firefighters were continuing their efforts to extinguish the blaze using the deployed equipment.

Sussex Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service personnel attended the location alongside fire crews.

The operational scale was subsequently reduced from four fire appliances to a single appliance by mid-afternoon.

Authorities confirmed the situation remained under control as efforts to fully resolve the incident continued.
