The Capitol venue in Horsham is poised to welcome audiences once more following an extensive renovation programme.

The facility ceased operations on January 4 to facilitate the improvement works, and the £10 million scheme is scheduled to resume activities in early November to coincide with the annual pantomime period.

Horsham District Council expressed commitment to ensuring the scheme delivered community benefits throughout the wider district area, not merely enhancements to the entertainment complex itself.

Deputy leader and finance cabinet member Councillor Mark Baynham commented that the renovation represented an investment intended to generate sustained advantages for local residents and enterprises alongside providing contemporary theatre and cinema facilities for visitors.

Willmott Dixon Interiors secured the contract to execute the refurbishment works, with defined targets concerning employment, skill development and community contribution.

The initiative has reportedly produced approximately £270,000 in Social Return on Investment to this point.

Notable accomplishments encompassed engagement of local workforce, collaboration with small and medium-sized enterprises and implementation of a construction careers pathway initiative.

The undertaking additionally engaged with the West Sussex Careers Hub to provide practical industry exposure for 12 students, while coordinating with the council’s health and wellbeing service to deliver informative sessions and health assessments on location.

The company also extended support to the youth charity 4 The Youth through assistance with improving the outdoor area at Horsham Youth Centre.

Social value manager Shannon Kerrigan observed that such community benefits formed a core component of each scheme but achieved greater impact through collaborative working relationships with multiple partners.
