A temporary traffic regulation order has been issued by Brighton and Hove City Council for a section of Western Esplanade in Hove.

The affected stretch, measuring approximately 200 metres in length, extends from the western boundary of the King Alfred Leisure Centre to the intersection with Hove Street.

The closure, scheduled to commence on September 7, is required to facilitate electricity infrastructure works.

Specialist contractors have been appointed to install a new electricity supply in the area.

During the period when the cycle lane is unavailable, pedestrians and cyclists will share the adjacent footway.

This arrangement is intended to maintain access for all users while the works are carried out.

According to the council’s notice, the temporary order is expected to remain in effect until October 14, 2026.

The legal authority for the regulation comes from Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, which enables local authorities to impose traffic restrictions when necessary for roadworks or public safety purposes.
