Fallen tree branch cleared from Park View Road in Hove after strong winds

Published on

Images have emerged showing harm to a tree after powerful gusts and substantial rainfall struck the South East region.

Following an extended period of milder conditions, the late spring bank holiday brought contrasting conditions throughout Sussex.

The severe wind gusts resulted in destruction for numerous residents, including along Park View Road in Hove, where a substantial tree limb collapsed onto the highway.

Subsequent traffic updates confirmed that the route has since been reopened.

Earlier during the week, authorities had called on members of the public to exercise caution in coastal areas because of the changeable atmospheric conditions.

Representatives from Brighton and Hove City Council’s waterfront division shared several recommendations, including maintaining distance from the coast, supervising children closely and ensuring pets remained restrained when near the sea.

The council also advised residents to monitor tidal schedules, refrain from standing on rock groynes and demonstrate heightened vigilance when capturing images along the waterfront.

Despite this, the precipitation is not expected to persist.

Meteorological projections from the Met Office indicate predominantly dry conditions with intervals of sunshine anticipated over the next several days.

According to the weather service, a spell of instability is probable, with precipitation in the form of showers or extended rainfall periods expected across various locations at different times.

The prediction indicated that rainfall would concentrate primarily in northern and western districts, whereas southern and eastern regions could anticipate lengthier periods without precipitation.
