An infrastructure upgrade in Uckfield has brought high-speed broadband connectivity to thousands of properties across the town.

Openreach has deployed approximately £2.1 million in investment to expand its Full Fibre network to the area, enabling around 7,000 homes and commercial premises to access improved internet services.

The rollout has achieved coverage of almost 85 percent across the town, according to the telecommunications company.

However, officials indicated that numerous customers continue to utilise older copper-based connections rather than switching to the newer technology.

Kieran Wines, who serves as partnership director for London and the South East region at Openreach, acknowledged the progress made in the town while noting that uptake remained incomplete.

Wines explained that availability of the service does not automatically result in connection, as customers must actively place an order through their preferred internet service provider to receive the upgraded infrastructure.

The Full Fibre technology provides customers with accelerated download capabilities, improved consistency of service, and enhanced capacity for simultaneous device connections throughout households and businesses.

The company has established targets to extend this figure to 25 million premises by the conclusion of 2026, with projections suggesting that 30 million locations could potentially be reached by 2030 provided investment conditions remain favourable.
