Children’s charity secures funding for physiotherapist role

A children’s charity has been awarded funding to hire a senior paediatric physiotherapist.

The Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity (DVLCC) based in Uckfield, East Sussex and named after the late singer who lived in nearby Ditchling, received the grant of £70,000 from Global’s Make Some Noise, the official charity of Global, the Media and Entertainment group.

It will fund the position for two years.

Glenys Creese, chief executive of DVLCC, said: “Thanks to the generosity of listeners from Global radio stations, this funding is a vital step forward in our mission to reach more children at the earliest possible stage of their development.

“By investing in specialist early intervention, we can give children with complex needs the best chance to build essential skills, gain independence and thrive.”

The senior paediatric physiotherapist will deliver specialist support through DVLCC’s Learning Together Project, which provides weekly play-based therapy for children under five with cerebral palsy, chromosome abnormalities, or rare genetic disorders.

The therapy focuses on improving strength, coordination and essential motor skills.

The physiotherapist will also work with parents to help continue therapy at home and recommend equipment to improve mobility.

The charity supports families across the southeast, including West Sussex, East Sussex, Surrey, Kent, Hampshire and South London.
