Rottingdean Cricket Club has collected over £900 following a commemorative event honouring its former chairperson.

The money was gathered during the Sarah Hunt Memorial Day, held on Sunday 19 April at the ground, with proceeds divided evenly between the club and Martlets Hospice.

The gathering marked the second anniversary of the passing of Sarah Hunt, who occupied numerous committee positions across a span exceeding 18 years.

Club chairman Henry Ledden, who is Sarah’s nephew, explained that those wishing to witness what a lasting legacy looks like should visit on Friday evenings to observe approximately 100 young players taking part in training sessions, comprising 17 girls under the age of 12 alongside the club’s expanding women’s squads.

He noted that dedicated volunteers are now investing considerable time and energy to make this possible, but suggested this commitment reflects the welcoming atmosphere that Sarah was instrumental in establishing.

Approximately 100 individuals gathered for the memorial occasion, which included an internal six-a-side softball competition, activities for families and catering.

The club ranks among the oldest in England, with documentation traceable to 1758.

The contributions will benefit both Rottingdean Cricket Club and Martlets Hospice, whose sensitive end-of-life services have assisted numerous families throughout Brighton and Hove.
