Time Out has released its selection of the 16 outstanding seaside towns across Britain worth visiting in 2026, highlighting locations ranging from charming beach communities to renowned resorts and far-flung harbours in Scotland.

Two neighbouring communities in Sussex secured spots on the list, each earning particular praise.

The towns of Hastings and St Leonards, situated in East Sussex, were featured by Time Out, which characterised them as creative twin settlements brimming with cultural attractions and excellent dining options.

According to Time Out, these two locations, separated by roughly a 20-minute walk, contain all the ingredients for an ideal excursion.

This accolade is not the inaugural time the area has garnered attention as a premier destination for 2026. Time Out had previously identified Hastings and its neighbour St Leonards-on-Sea among the very best locations to discover throughout Britain this year.

Hastings’s main shopping street has also earned distinction, with the Express noting it among the country’s finest high streets.

Various independent businesses in the area, including AG Hendy & Co in the Old Town district and Little Mashers in St Leonards, have been selected by The Times as belonging to the top 50 independent retailers in the nation.

Hastings’s primary commercial thoroughfare is reportedly home to numerous independent outlets offering an array of merchandise spanning artwork and antiques to sophisticated home accessories, fresh blooms, handcrafted breads and unusual gifts.
