Paramedics are now able to view important patient information directly through a new system.
The South East Coast Ambulance Service has gained entry to GP Connect, a nationwide platform enabling approved healthcare workers to examine crucial details from individuals’ GP records, such as prescribed medicines and allergy details.
Since June 2025, the facility has been accessed on over 15,000 occasions.
Jaqui Lindridge, chief paramedic officer at SECAmb, explained that enhanced and more efficient access to this frequently essential information enables their medical professionals to reach better-informed conclusions for their patients’ wellbeing.
Staff members who participated in the initial trial provided strongly encouraging responses, indicating that having this overview was making their patient interactions both more effective and more secure.
The trial programme commenced in Paddock Wood, Kent, where operational ambulance personnel have already utilised the resource to assist with decision-making at incident scenes.
Medical professionals based in Ashford, Kent, will subsequently commence testing the Kent and Medway Care Record, a system that merges data from various health and social care organisations.
Feedback from the trial indicates the facility proves particularly valuable when managing incidents involving falls and chest discomfort.
This development forms part of SECAmb’s wider objective to achieve complete integration with the National Care Record System.
