Hopscotch Nursery in Worthing has achieved the top rating across all assessment areas in its most recent Ofsted review.

The setting earned the Strong classification during its inaugural inspection following Hopscotch’s acquisition of the nursery in 2023. The facility had previously been rated Good during an inspection two years earlier.

This achievement places the nursery at the second-highest level on Ofsted’s revised grading system, which was implemented at the beginning of 2026.

Philip Ford, chief executive officer at Hopscotch Nurseries, expressed enthusiasm about the outcome, noting the dedication demonstrated by the Worthing leadership group and all staff members since the takeover in 2023. He emphasised that as a smaller independent family-run business operating nurseries for more than three decades, the organisation remains committed to prioritising every child’s requirements based on the expertise gained in Worthing and their other settings.

Education inspectors lauded the management group’s methods following the change of ownership, with the published findings stating that the new operators engaged in thorough and persistent evaluation of existing practices and areas requiring development. According to the report, this comprehensive approach has substantially elevated the overall quality of provision throughout the setting.

The inspection document indicated that families have observed the improvements made and hold the leadership team in high regard for the way the service has evolved.

Inspectors highlighted the caring and supportive atmosphere, observing that younger children display comfort and confidence while readily seeking familiar members of staff for guidance. The report also noted that children exhibit considerate behaviour, show regard for others, and demonstrate understanding. Additionally, the quality of instruction was described as carefully tailored to suit each child’s individual fascinations and capabilities.

The level of assistance provided to all children was characterised as exceptionally effective, encompassing those with special educational needs or those previously involved with children’s social care services.

Laura Gonzalez Rodriguez, the nursery’s manager, stated that supporting the children and families in Worthing represents a source of considerable pride, and witnessing the team’s acknowledgment for their daily dedication and professionalism holds significant meaning. She added that considerable effort has been invested in cultivating a space where every child receives encouragement, feels respected, and can develop successfully.
