Hundreds of participants took part in the Race the Sun South Downs challenge.
The event, held on April 24 in aid of Action Medical Research, saw teams embark on a dawn-to-dusk adventure in support of vital research for children’s health.
More than 170 teams began shortly after first light and faced a “triple challenge”: a 33-mile cycle across the South Downs, a 10-mile hike, and a two-mile canoe paddle along the Cuckmere River.
Felicity Louden, head of events at Action Medical Research, said: “Race the Sun is about more than just physical endurance; it’s about the power of a team working toward a common goal.
“Watching teams support one another through those final miles is incredibly moving.
“Money raised will help fund medical research into conditions affecting babies and children.”
Participants battled tough routes, including a demanding final climb up High ‘n’ Over, with unseasonably warm weather adding to the challenge.
The goal was to finish the course before sunset.
An estimated £335,000 has already been raised, with funds still coming in to support the charity’s mission of improving the lives of children through medical research.
Action Medical Research is now encouraging new teams to take part in next year’s series.
More than 170 teams took part in the challenge.
Felicity added that the event is about more than just physical endurance, and underlined the collective effort that makes it a success.
She said: “It’s about the power of a team working toward a common goal.

Registration for the 2027 races will open this summer, including South Downs, the Lake District, Jurassic Coast, and a new addition, The Chilterns.
