A care home is opening its doors for a community garden party.
The event will take place on May 9 from 1pm to 4pm to mark the 81st anniversary of VE Day at Care UK’s Martlet Manor on Butlers Green Road in Haywards Heath.
To celebrate the occasion, the care home will host an afternoon of live entertainment from Lorna Collins, alongside food and drinks prepared by the home’s head chef, to commemorate the end of the Second World War in Europe.
Sarah Barrett, home manager at Martlet Manor, said: “We’re thrilled to be marking the VE Day anniversary with a special garden party, celebrating with members of our local community.
“We’re especially looking forward to spending the afternoon enjoying live entertainment, dancing and fingers crossed – some sun.
“This anniversary is incredibly meaningful for our residents, as many have a personal connection to this important moment in history.
“It gives us the opportunity to reflect, remember and celebrate in a truly joyful way.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the Air force and became a QAI flying instructor, later being awarded status as a wing commander. I’m looking forward to the VE Day party, and I hope that everyone will have a lovely time!”
Martlet Manor is designed to support residents in living active and independent lives, with dedicated suites that foster close-knit communities.
The care home features its own cinema, hair and beauty salon and a family guest room.
