Schools, community centres and youth groups are among the latest groups to benefit from a regional funding scheme.

Sussex organisations are among those awarded grants from South East Water’s Community Chest Fund, a £20,000 scheme supporting good causes.

Four Sussex recipients – Friends of Brantridge School, Rocks Park Primary School, Polegate Community Association and the Royal Air Force Air Cadets – 54 Squadron – each received between £1,000 and £2,000 for projects that support environmental education and community spaces.

A spokesperson for Friends of Brantridge School said: “We are so very grateful to have been selected for this grant which will go towards the construction of our sensory garden.

“We very much look forward to completing the garden and putting it to good use so it can enrich the learning and enjoyment of our pupils for many years to come.”

Lindsay Kingsford, head of school at Rocks Park Primary School in Uckfield, said: “Thank you so much for the Community Chest funding; it will be used to benefit our understanding of the ecology within our school grounds and enhance biodiversity.

“The pupils will be able to help recreate the pond area and discover the creatures who inhabit these conditions.
