An MP has praised an alternative education setting after seeing first-hand how it helps young people realise their potential.
Lewes MP James MacCleary visited East Sussex Academy, which supports pupils unable to access mainstream education and forms part of London South East Academies Trust (LSEAT).
He toured the site during the visit, observing lessons and activities and spoke with pupils and staff about the school’s progress since joining the trust.
Mr MacCleary said: “It was a pleasure to visit East Sussex Academy today, I enjoyed meeting staff and pupils.
“It was great to see and hear about the important work being done to support young people who need access to this vital alternative provision. It is clear that the school plays a vital role in the local community.
“I welcome the opportunity to continue discussions on how we can strengthen support for SEND and alternative provision across East Sussex.”
During the visit, students shared their aspirations with Mr MacCleary and voiced concerns about environmental issues including global warming and rubbish levels in the local area.

Dr Sam Parrett CBE DL, CEO of London South East Academies Trust, said: “We were delighted to welcome James to East Sussex Academy today.
“Visits like this are an important part of our civic role, ensuring our local partners and policymakers have the opportunity to see the realities of specialist and alternative provision first-hand.
