A 13-year-old girl discovered an intruder standing above her bed in the early hours of a June morning, Portsmouth Crown Court was told.
During a plea hearing on July 6, the court heard that on the morning of June 6, the teenager woke to see a man in a balaclava beside her bed, clutching cable ties.
Her cries for help roused her mother and father, who immediately contacted the emergency services.
Despite the intruder assaulting the girl’s parents during his bid to flee, residents managed to hold him at the property in Rogate until police arrived shortly afterwards.
Christopher Buxey, aged 42 and residing at Privett Place in Gosport, was apprehended and transported to a police station. Subsequent charges included attempted abduction under common law, unlawful entry into a building with intent to commit a relevant sexual offence, and inflicting actual bodily harm.
He was brought before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on June 6 and placed in custody.
At the crown court session on Monday, July 6, he admitted guilt to unlawfully entering premises with the intention of committing a relevant sexual offence and to actual bodily harm.
Buxey denied the attempted kidnap charge but accepted a lesser accusation of attempted false imprisonment, which the court accepted.
He additionally admitted responsibility for two counts of child sexual assault involving a victim under 13, two counts of sexual assault by penetration of a child under 13, two counts of taking indecent images of a child, and three counts of creating indecent photographs of a child. These matters relate to a separate investigation conducted in Hampshire.
He remains in custody pending his sentencing appearance at Portsmouth Crown Court on September 25.
Detective Chief Inspector Ali Hutchings stated that the victims and their relatives continue to endure significant trauma, with specialist officers providing ongoing assistance.
She added that investigators from both Sussex and Hampshire have worked diligently to gather evidence for the court proceedings, and that the force now looks forward to the sentencing of Buxey following his guilty pleas.
