Eastbourne council receives £1.5m funding to tackle rough sleeping

Eastbourne is set to receive a significant boost in its battle against street homelessness through a funding package exceeding £1.5 million.

The allocation, granted to Eastbourne Borough Council across a three-year period, will fuel the authority’s rough sleeping strategy.

The initiative involves collaboration with charitable organisations, religious groups, individuals who have experienced homelessness firsthand, and various other bodies.

A council representative noted that the sustained nature of this funding enables the expansion of supported housing options and reinforces collaborative programmes already under way in the town.

Street homelessness presents intricate challenges, and sustainable remedies depend on effective cooperation between healthcare providers, social services, charitable bodies, and faith-based organisations.

The investment permits the continuation of this joint working method and ensures those in need access appropriate assistance promptly.

The council’s homelessness specialists are in dialogue with established service providers and coordinating with adjacent local authorities throughout East Sussex to establish the most effective deployment of the fresh resources.

A further statement from the council highlighted longstanding advocacy efforts to combat homelessness and rough sleeping.

The representative expressed enthusiasm that the authority’s dedicated officer team, each possessing specialist knowledge in this demanding area, would now have enhanced capacity to deliver meaningful improvements.
