A YMCA project worker based at William Collier House in Brighton is preparing to undertake a grueling 100-mile walking challenge to support individuals experiencing homelessness.
Christopher Sanders Browning, who operates from YMCA Brighton’s William Collier House facility, plans to journey on foot from Southampton to Exeter beginning in late September 2026, with the expedition expected to span approximately two weeks.
He will complete the entire route while camping outdoors.
The initiative aims to generate both financial support and increased visibility for YMCA Brighton’s programs that assist those with housing instability and complicated living situations.
As a longtime endurance walker, Sanders Browning has previously organized similar charitable walks benefiting refugee populations through his local church community in Hove.
Sanders Browning explained that he regularly witnesses how rapidly someone’s situation can deteriorate and how challenging recovery can become from such points.
He emphasized that organizations such as YMCA Brighton play a vital role in supporting those affected.
The forthcoming challenge represents his personal approach to generating resources and understanding for both his professional colleagues and the broader population experiencing homelessness.
Sanders Browning described himself as an experienced long-distance walker with a track record of completing sponsored walks for charitable purposes.
His previous efforts have focused on supporting refugee communities through church-based initiatives in Hove.
Marie Claire Macintosh, who serves as fundraising and communications manager at YMCA Brighton, expressed that Sanders Browning’s dedication to the challenge demonstrated remarkable inspiration and genuine emotion.
She stated that he was well-prepared for the undertaking and that the organization would be offering enthusiastic encouragement throughout the journey while feeling considerable pride in his efforts.
