Adur Volunteering Week celebrates community volunteers across district

A dedicated seven-day event will recognise the contribution of volunteers across Adur.

The Adur Volunteering Week initiative is scheduled to take place from Friday, October 2 through Thursday, October 8, drawing attention to the efforts of volunteers and community organisations operating throughout the district through various activities and events shared via the council’s online platforms.

The programme aims to demonstrate the range of volunteering positions and initiatives available in Lancing, Shoreham, Sompting, Southwick and Fishersgate, enabling local residents to discover opportunities to contribute in their own neighbourhoods.

Councillor Adrienne Lowe, who serves as Adur District Council’s cabinet member responsible for communities, wellbeing and leisure, expressed her appreciation for those who dedicate their time to helping others.

She noted that whether individuals participate in environmental clean-ups, support grassroots sporting activities, assist food banks with deliveries, run creative workshops or provide administrative assistance to charitable organisations, every person who offers their time deserves recognition.

According to Lowe, the designated week provides an opportunity to honour such contributions and convey gratitude to volunteers throughout the community.

Currently confirmed activities include involvement from Lancing Community Garden, The Circular Space located in Shoreham and the National Coastwatch Institution at Shoreham.

Community groups hosting activities or seeking to arrange additional events during the specified period have been invited to participate by submitting details through a dedicated form available on the council’s website.

A concluding celebration and networking gathering is planned for October 8.
