A Sussex city has emerged as the nightmares capital of the South East region.
Chichester secured the top position in the local classification, registering 441.4 nightmare-related queries per 10,000 inhabitants monthly, according to research conducted by sleep specialists at Ableworld.
Winchester placed second with 362.9 searches per 10,000 residents, while Canterbury ranked third with 209.
Connie Downie, a representative from Ableworld, explained that nightmares can appear intensely vivid and distressing, with the accompanying fear frequently persisting after waking.
She noted that particularly disturbing dreams may leave individuals feeling unsettled, anxious, or hesitant about returning to sleep.
The research additionally examined the primary recurring themes that prevented individuals from sleeping.
Arachnids ranked highest among the fears, followed by serpents, pursuit scenarios, employment concerns, and dental issues.
Additional prevalent subjects comprised undead figures, mortality, supernatural entities, and former romantic partners.
Downie highlighted that despite the appearance of nightmares as a frivolous subject, particularly during autumn celebrations, they can significantly impair sleep quality and overall wellness.
For those experiencing persistent disturbing dreams, Downie advised implementing a relaxation routine prior to sleep, steering clear of alarming material in the evening hours, maintaining consistent bedtime patterns, establishing a calming bedroom setting, and limiting consumption of stimulants and alcoholic beverages during nighttime hours.
