The German discount retailer Aldi has announced plans to establish a presence in Haywards Heath as part of a substantial nationwide growth initiative.
The West Sussex town is among several locations confirmed for new store openings scheduled for 2027.
The expansion represents a significant investment in the British retail market by the budget supermarket group.
The chain currently maintains a network of 1,095 stores operating throughout the United Kingdom.
Company executives have identified communities experiencing restricted access to affordable food options as priority areas for new development.
The 2027 rollout follows an earlier phase of growth, with construction and fit-out works already underway for 30 additional outlets due for completion in late 2026.
The programme is expected to generate thousands of employment positions while creating fresh commercial relationships with domestic producers and suppliers.
Alongside Haywards Heath, the retailer has confirmed development sites in Angel situated in the northern part of the capital, Bridgend located in Wales, Clapham in the southern reaches of London, and Halifax in the western portion of Yorkshire.
Jonathan Neale, who holds the position of national real estate managing director at the British division, outlined the company’s commitment to continued capital expenditure across the country as progress continues toward a long-term target of operating 1,500 stores nationally.
He indicated that the new establishments form a component of the 900 million pound investment allocation designated for 2027 and will enable the company to extend its product range and competitive pricing to additional neighbourhoods.
He expressed enthusiasm about advancing the development schedule and anticipating customer visits to the upcoming facilities.
The announcement follows recent disclosures regarding a 300 million pound renovation scheme encompassing 25 existing branches nationwide.
Under those proposals, the branch situated in Lewes is scheduled for enlargement and modernisation.
Meanwhile, planning authorities in Polegate have approved proposals for a new Aldi outlet after initially rejecting a previous application submitted by the company twelve months prior.
Wealden District Council had declined the earlier scheme on grounds including vehicular access arrangements, vegetation removal, environmental considerations, and water management.
Following the refusal, the company worked with transport officials and council departments to address the raised objections.
The approved scheme incorporates a reduced retail footprint compared to the original bid alongside additional charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.
Company representatives submitted that the development would enhance the range of services available locally while enabling linked visits for consumers.
They further noted that the site layout ensures accessibility for residents without private motor vehicles, supporting environmentally responsible development patterns.
