A month-long cultural initiative is set to return to Brighton and Hove this October, marking its second consecutive year following a successful inaugural launch.

October has emerged as one of the busiest periods in the city’s annual events schedule, with more than 200 activities spanning arts, performance, family entertainment, and culinary experiences catalogued in the programme’s listings.

The initiative is coordinated by the Brighton and Hove Tourism Alliance and Discover Brighton.

The concept involves uniting hospitality venues, performers, event producers, and restaurants in a free-to-attend format designed to attract tourists during the quieter post-summer period while encouraging local residents to discover more of what their city offers.

Among the programme’s central features is the Taste Trail, which operates throughout October across multiple city centre establishments.

Participants can locate taking part venues by identifying distinctive orange posters displayed in windows.

Visitors may receive discounted menu items or complimentary samples, with no advance booking or special wristband necessary.

Nostos on Holland Road dedicates Wednesday evenings to unlimited Greek street food.

Diners can select from an array of traditional Greek offerings, with items such as gyros and souvlaki included in the arrangement at a rate of £21 per attendee.

Additional culinary offerings with entertainment components are scheduled across various locations.

Brighton Racecourse hosts the concluding fixture of the racing calendar on Thursday October 15, commencing with the BITE Sussex Waiters’ Race.

Serving staff and bar workers will compete over a distance of one furlong, with judges deducting points for any wine spilled from glasses carried on trays.

Spectators can place bets on their preferred competitor, with proceeds directed to charitable causes.

The Winkle establishment situated along the seafront Kings Road Arches is staging four separate events as part of the October programme.

Thursday October 15 features a sea-food charcuterie paired with wine, Friday October 23 offers a surf and turf theme, Wednesday October 28 presents Brighton Ghost Walk’s Rob Marks hosting a themed dining experience, and Thursday October 29 sees the venue’s team organising a fundraising supper club supporting the JustLife charity.

The Sussex Peasant operates mobile produce markets throughout October, featuring their standard selection complemented by supplementary stalls from regional food and drink vendors.

The Big Autumn Markets will appear at St Ann’s Well Garden in Hove on Friday October 16 and at Preston Park on Saturday October 17.

German-themed celebrations return to Shelter Hall on Friday October 23 and Saturday October 24, with Bavarian-inspired cuisine, an extensive selection of beers, and traditional festivities including music and communal celebrations.

A spirit-tasting experience paired with food offerings takes place at Old School Studios on Roedean Road on Saturday October 24, led by Mezcal specialist Erika Martinez from Gente de Mezcal.

The event explores Mezcal’s distinctive smoky characteristics.

Mexican culinary traditions appear elsewhere in the schedule, with La Choza presenting their popular Day of the Dead observances, bringing one of Brighton’s established Mexican street food brands into the October festivities.

With Halloween coinciding with Saturday October 31, numerous weekend events carry seasonal themes.

Families seeking suitable evening entertainment can attend an event organised by BITE Sussex and SEA LIFE Brighton, featuring themed activities throughout the aquarium.

Entry encompasses refreshments including hot food from Nostos, novelty ice cream from Boho Gelato, chocolate treats from Brighton Beach House, interactive entertainment provided by Brighton Toy and Model Museum, and themed snacks.

Additional features include a charity raffle, a prize for the most inventive costume, and refreshments for accompanying adults.

Children are required to accompany adult attendees at this particular event.
