Hospitality workers will compete in a charitable 200-metre sprint at Brighton Racecourse this Thursday, marking the conclusion of the flat racing season.
BITE Sussex is orchestrating the competition, which will see servers from establishments throughout Brighton and Hove attempting to maintain their balance while carrying trays laden with food and beverages.
Spectators attending the race meeting will have the opportunity to place wagers on which participant or establishment they believe will prove most successful.
All funds raised through the event and associated betting activities will be directed to Justlife, an organisation providing assistance to individuals and families residing in temporary housing.
The charity’s representative highlighted that homelessness extends beyond visible street sleeping, noting that numerous parent-and-child households in Brighton and Hove find themselves without stable accommodation.
Such circumstances frequently result in entire families sharing a single room, lacking adequate space, security, and basic necessities.
The absence of proper areas for children to play or study compounds the pressures faced by parents striving to maintain family routines under demanding conditions.
Justlife’s dedicated programme for children and families delivers hands-on aid during these complex situations, supporting households with essential furnishings and domestic items, while also helping them engage with support services, attend appointments, and establish connections across health, education, financial, and community sectors.
The initiative ensures families do not confront housing instability in isolation.
Brighton Racecourse’s leadership expressed pride in participating in such a dynamic urban initiative, viewing the season’s closing fixture as an ideal means of concluding the racing programme.
The venue anticipates welcoming both experienced attendees and first-time visitors for an enjoyable coastal occasion.
Tickets for the event are available for £10, exclusively for Argus readers.
