A rescue operation was mounted by lifeboat personnel after a lone individual was observed in the waters off Brighton’s Palace Pier on Friday afternoon.
Emergency services received reports of the situation at approximately 4:30pm on October 9th.
The individual was detected approximately 200 metres to the east of the pier structure, approximately 300 to 400 metres from the shoreline, with drift patterns suggesting movement toward Brighton Marina.
Upon arrival of the lifeboat team, the individual had already reached the beach independently.
Representatives from Sussex Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service were also dispatched to the location.
Lifeboat volunteers maintained their presence at the site as a precautionary measure due to the possibility of the individual re-entering the sea.
Conditions at the time were challenging, with powerful westerly winds creating rough seas.
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution expressed gratitude to the dedicated volunteers and partnered emergency responders who participated in the response.
The organisation is urging members of the public to contact emergency services by dialling 999 and requesting the Coastguard if they witness anyone in difficulty in the water or along the coastline.
The incident serves as a reminder of the hazards presented by turbulent seas and forceful winds along the Sussex coastline.
Volunteer crews from the RNLI attend emergencies at sea and along the coast, collaborating with other emergency services to assist those in peril.
