Brighton dad fights three charity bouts to raise more than £1,600

A Brighton resident has entered the ring three times across three consecutive years, generating charitable donations for organisations that have provided vital support to his family during challenging periods.

Karl Everton, 34, from Coldean, has accumulated more than £1,600 through Ultra White Collar Boxing contests, directing funds toward causes that have assisted his household through difficult circumstances.

His initial bout occurred in November 2024, prompted by his son Finley, who arrived prematurely in 2020 and required hospitalisation for six months before subsequently receiving a Level 3 autism diagnosis.

According to Everton, those initial years placed considerable strain on their household, yet the treatment Finley obtained at the Trevor Mann Baby Unit furnished them with significant reassurance and encouragement during an extraordinarily demanding phase.

He stated that the medical team offered assistance precisely when it was required most, and channelling funds toward them presented an opportunity to express gratitude.

His second contest took place in July 2025, benefiting Blood Cancer UK, after his mother-in-law received a cancer diagnosis the prior year.

According to Everton, witnessing someone who had devoted so much to the family then confront such an illness proved extremely difficult.

He noted that despite everything she was enduring, she remained focused on Finley’s welfare and continued supporting them.

This July, he stepped into the ring for a third occasion, collecting contributions for Friends of Downsview, an organisation assisting the specialist educational establishment his child attends.

Everton observed that direct experience had shown him how crucial an appropriate environment proves for Finley’s development.

He explained that the establishment works extensively to facilitate his learning, personal growth, and sense of security, and he wished to reciprocate toward an institution that held profound significance for his family.

Training took place at Stingwray Boxing Club in Brighton under the supervision of coach Neil Wray, with Everton crediting the initiative with facilitating a significant personal transformation.

He indicated that prior to boxing, he occupied a considerably diminished state.

He added that without Ultra White Collar Boxing, his circumstances would likely be vastly different, and commencing the programme had yielded unexpected life-altering effects.

Across his three appearances in the ring, Everton has generated more than £1,600 for charitable purposes.
