Individuals who have endured domestic abuse are being given the opportunity to contribute their accounts of navigating the family court system in Sussex.
A newly launched consultation seeks perspectives from adults who have participated in family court processes within the county, with the intention of enhancing procedures for future cases.
Family courts address matters relating to children, marital breakdowns, divorce, adoption, and child welfare.
The Sussex Family Justice Board is overseeing the initiative and plans to utilise the responses to pinpoint where enhancements can be made regarding communication, assistance provided to users, and collaborative practices among agencies involved in cases.
Gemma Taylor KC and Kieran Lyons, the joint chairs of the board, stated that gathering input from those with direct experience of family court proceedings is considered vital for comprehending current strengths, identifying areas requiring change, and developing a system that prioritises safety, responsiveness, and sensitivity to trauma.
The chairs encouraged any person able to offer insights based on their involvement with the family justice system to participate in the consultation.
The survey remains accessible to individuals aged eighteen years or above who have encountered both domestic abuse and family court proceedings within Sussex.
