Brighton Lanes stretch between Duke Street and Ship Street hosts four burger restaurants

Published on

The proliferation of hamburger establishments across the United Kingdom has become a notable feature of the contemporary dining landscape.

While the dish traces its origins to German immigrants from Hamburg who arrived in the United States during the late nineteenth century, variations involving minced meat placed between bread slices likely existed earlier in Europe.

The hamburger has established itself as versatile street food capable of accommodating various price points and ingredient qualities.

The format requires no cutlery proficiency and allows for considerable creativity in presentation.

Brighton maintains a significant concentration of burger outlets.

Within the city’s Lanes area, a concentrated cluster exists along the stretch between Duke Street and Ship Street.

Venues in this vicinity include 7Bone, Honest Burgers, Flat Iron, and most recently, Burger and Beyond.

Burger and Beyond opened its Brighton location at the junction of Ship Street and Union Street in July.

The establishment operates as a fast-casual dining concept with a deliberately limited expansion strategy, currently operating only four restaurants across London and Brighton.

Industry observers have noted this measured approach as prioritising quality over aggressive growth.

A lunch option is available at £16, encompassing a burger, fries, and a soft drink.

The standard menu offers additional selections.

During a September visit, one option sampled was the classic cheeseburger served with a gluten-free bun, accompanied by bone marrow gravy fries at an additional cost of £3.50.

A chicken Caesar salad with fries was also ordered.

Drinks selected included a spicy Tommy’s margarita and a non-alcoholic spritz.

Cocktails in the area typically retail at approximately £12 to £13.

The burger itself consisted of a single patty with American cheese, onion, and smoked mayonnaise.

The gluten-free bun was noted for its brioche-like quality, differing from typical gluten-free alternatives.

The combination was described as achieving a balance of flavour and texture that required considerable development.

The establishment has since received positive recommendations among industry contacts.

Whether the venue warrants return visits remains a matter of individual preference, with alternative options available in Brighton offering comparable or superior value for midweek daytime dining.
