Roundabout Nursery in Whitehawk officially joins Aurora Academies Trust

Published on

Roundabout Nursery in Whitehawk has officially transferred to Aurora Academies Trust after previously operating under Brighton & Hove City Council.

The establishment in Brighton completed its transition to the multi-academy trust following a consultation process involving employees, parents, and local residents.

The transfer is intended to safeguard the nursery’s future operations while preserving its contribution to early childhood development in the neighbourhood.

James Freeston, chief executive of Aurora Academies Trust, expressed satisfaction at the formal addition of Roundabout Nursery to the organisation.

He noted that the nursery had already established itself as a valuable service with committed staff members, solid connections to the local area, and a reputation that parents highly regard.

He indicated that the trust would build upon these existing strengths and support the nursery’s continued success.

Freeston stated that the trust’s focus remains on delivering the highest standards of education to young people and that arrangements had been made to ensure families experienced an uncomplicated move.

The trust currently runs six other nursery settings and possesses expertise in providing high-quality early years education.

Roundabout Nursery will maintain its year-round, full-day operations from its existing location on Whitehawk Road, where it shares facilities with City Academy Whitehawk.

The primary academy to which the nursery now belongs received an ‘outstanding’ rating from Ofsted for its early years provision in 2024.

Aurora Academies Trust confirmed it collaborated extensively with Brighton & Hove City Council throughout the transition period to ensure the nursery sustained the quality of early years care that children deserve.

Councillor Emma Daniel, cabinet member at Brighton & Hove City Council, stated that the authority was pleased the nursery had formally joined Aurora Academies Trust.

She acknowledged that families in the local area held strong feelings about the nursery and recognised its significance to the Whitehawk community and the part it had played for many individuals.

She expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to achieving this outcome and anticipated the nursery would continue to thrive as part of the trust.

Aurora Academies Trust manages schools and nurseries throughout the South East of England.
